ADA Compliance for Medical Facilities in Texas
Medical facilities in Texas must meet both federal ADA Standards and Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) administered by TDLR. The numbers are stricter than many property managers expect.
1–25 spaces: 1 accessible stall (must be van-accessible with 8-ft access aisle)
26–50 spaces: 2 stalls, at least 1 van-accessible
51–75 spaces: 3 stalls, at least 1 van-accessible
Standard accessible: 8-ft wide with 5-ft painted access aisle
Van-accessible: 11-ft wide with 5-ft aisle OR 8-ft wide with 8-ft aisle, signed “Van Accessible”
ISA symbol must be painted on pavement surface , sign alone does not satisfy TAS
