What’s Different for Churches & Houses of Worship

How We Work With
Churches & Houses of Worship

Churches use their lots in bursts. Sunday morning, holidays, weddings, funerals. Peak capacity matters. The other 6 days the same lot is quiet. Painted overflow lines that activate on big days are part of how a church lot earns its layout.

ADA proximity matters more than ratio at a church. Older congregants and attendees with mobility limits need shortest-path stalls, not just minimum-count compliance. Stalls placed near covered entrances and ramps. Van-accessible spots with the right access aisle width. The code is one thing. Getting it right for the people walking in is the actual goal.

Fire-lane requirements are stricter for assembly occupancies. Anything 50+ people falls under tighter Texas fire codes than retail. Lanes have to be marked, signed, and kept clear during services. Inspectors do come.

Common Challenges We Solve

  • ADA inspection failure or fire marshal citation
  • Faded paint after years of weekend-heavy traffic
  • Adding capacity (overflow) before a major event
  • Lot expanded or repaved and needs new layout
  • Building a new campus or fellowship hall, need striping for the addition
  • Bus or large-vehicle stalls for shuttle services or visiting groups

What Affects Your Quote

Pricing Factors

We provide free written estimates after walking the property. No dollar amounts quoted here, scope and pricing are too property-specific to be meaningful without a site visit. These are the factors that drive cost.

  • Lot square footage and total stall count
  • ADA stall count plus access aisle requirements
  • Fire-lane footage (often substantial at churches)
  • Stenciling complexity. Numbered stalls, reserved markings, directional
  • New layout vs. refresh of existing

Code & Compliance

What the Code Requires

Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) and federal ADA both apply to public-accommodation parking. ADA stall ratio is 1 accessible stall per every 25 stalls (minimum), with at least 1 of those van-accessible. The International Fire Code requires fire-lane access for assembly occupancies. Typically 20-foot minimum width with red curb and signage every 50 feet. Specific requirements vary by jurisdiction; we work to your local fire marshal’s call.

We verify your jurisdiction’s adopted code edition and any local amendments before quoting any compliance work. Requirements vary by property location across North Houston’s multiple jurisdictions, we check first so the job passes inspection on the first visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from Churches & Houses of Worship

Common questions we hear from Churches & Houses of Worship about parking lot striping, scheduling, compliance, and our process.

Can you stripe between Sunday services?+

Yes. Most church work is Mon-Thu, but weekends are possible. We schedule around your calendar, not ours.

How many handicap stalls does our church need?+

Standard ADA ratio is 1 per every 25 stalls minimum, plus at least 1 van-accessible. Bigger lots need more. Texas Accessibility Standards apply to all public-accommodation parking.

We’re a small congregation. Do we still need ADA compliance?+

Yes. Any public-accommodation parking lot needs ADA compliance. Congregation size doesn’t change the code.

We host a school in our building. Does that change our parking requirements?+

Yes. Mixed-use changes ADA stall counts and may trigger school bus or loading zone requirements. We assess based on your actual use.

The fire marshal cited us. How fast can you fix fire-lane markings?+

Fire-lane red-stripe and signage paint is typically 1-2 days from estimate to completion. Signage installation is separate. We paint, we don’t install signs.

Can you paint over old layout lines from a prior contractor?+

We assess whether the old paint is solid enough to overpaint. If it’s failing, the surface should be addressed first by an asphalt contractor. We don’t do asphalt repair, sealcoating, or line removal ourselves.
